Did You Know….?
Motor Oil – New York State requires service stations and automotive retailers to accept used motor oil up to 5 gallons. There may be a minimal charge for the disposal of antifreeze, if the garage has the capability of accepting it.
Automotive Batteries – May be taken to any Columbia County Solid Waste Station free of charge.
Alkaline Batteries – AAA, AA, C, D 9 Volt & lantern batteries are regular household trash. Currently Columbia County does not have a program in place to accept these items, but is looking for a market to properly dispose of these items.
Rechargeable Nickel Cadmium Batteries – Call 1-800-Battery for most convenient disposal options.
Wal-Mart and Staples participate in recycling collection programs in Columbia County.
Electronics - All electronics are accepted at the Greenport Transfer Station only -free of charge.
Fluorescent Light Bulbs – Please contact the Solid Waste Administration Office at 828-2737 for proper disposal instructions.
